Retro-Taxidermy
Sculpture designed for the exhibition commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Glenfiddich whisky brand.
This work is part of the brand's permanent collection, where reinterpretations of its emblematic symbol, the deer, are exhibited.
You can't stop the passage of time, but we still try.
RETRO-TAXIDERMY was born from the reflection on the human search for eternal youth and the difficulty we have in accepting the processes of aging and death.
Drawing parallels with the ageing of whisky and how age acts as a positive factor that confers value and distinction, the sculpture invites us to adopt a more positive view of time, encouraging us to naturally embrace the beauty inherent in natural processes.
A living sculpture made from fresh barley spikes (the raw material for whisky) that gradually turned from the vibrant green colour of the freshly harvested plant to the yellow and brown tones of dried barley, celebrating and exalting the transformations that time brings rather than rejecting them.
