A Modern Oracle!

Born from a reflection on humanity's ancestral desire to seek answers to its deepest questions through supernatural forces, the installation recreated a contemporary and humorous version of the ancient Greek oracles.

However, in modern times, oracular wisdom was manifested through the figure of "Señora Charo": a typical Spanish grandmother from the countryside, with a strong personality, possessing wisdom built throughout her life, which gave her the authority to give words of advice that became true prophecies.

Experimenting with the possibilities offered by the insertion of new technologies in the field of art, people sent questions about their existential dilemmas to Charo via Twitter, who, with a playful touch, always responded through a popular Spanish proverb.

By recognizing and valuing ancestral female knowledge, the installation highlighted the fundamental role of women as guardians and transmitters of wisdom, as well as their vital part in preserving cultural heritage.

Materially, the installation resembled a kind of giant Game Boy composed of two screens, contained in an antique piece of furniture designed to "host" "Señora Charo." On it, visitors could observe the grandmother going about her daily chores, which were interrupted in real-time whenever she received a question, allowing her to answer the incoming queries.
