#CHARODICE
"Interactive installation displayed at the Alicia Room Mate Hotel, as part of the DecorAcción Festival."
Playing with humanity's ancestral desire to seek answers to its deepest questions, by turning to mystical and supernatural forces, the installation recreated a contemporary and humorous version of what oracles were in ancient times.
However, today, the oracular wisdom manifested through the figure of Mrs. Charo: a typical Spanish grandmother from the countryside, with a strong personality and a lifetime of wisdom, which gave her the authority to offer advice that turned into true prophecies.
Experimenting with the possibilities offered by the integration of new technologies into the art field, people would send existential questions to Charo via Twitter, and with a playful touch, she would invariably respond with a traditional Spanish proverb.
By recognizing and valuing ancestral feminine knowledge, the installation highlighted the fundamental role of women as guardians and transmitters of oral wisdom, as well as their vital role in the preservation of cultural heritage.
Materially, the installation resembled a giant Game Boy composed of two screens, where it was possible to observe Mrs. Charo in her daily activities, which were interrupted in real time so that she could respond to tweets whenever a question was sent to her.
